Planting at GIVE Garden (Green Institute for Village Empowerment)
G.I.V.E (Green Institute for Village Empowerment) Urban Farm is a pilot project to bring urban garden, job creation, and community empowerment to Little Tokyo and Downtown Los Angeles. The ten aeroponic towers that are in the pictures are essentially the powerhouse behind this project. According the the Tower Garden website, the towers are basically a vertical, aeroponic growing system, allows you to grow up to 20 vegetables, herbs, fruits and flowers in less than three square feet—indoors or out. An advanced form of hydroponics, aeroponics is the process of growing plants in an air or mist environment rather than soil. Aeroponic systems use water, liquid nutrients and a soilless growing medium to quickly and efficiently grow more colorful, tastier, better smelling and incredibly nutritious produce. It's worth going to their website to read about this new technology. The tower gardens are currently housed at Union Church of Los Angeles in Little Tokyo. In about six weeks, I will post the results of the new garden towers.
